A shocking, heartbreaking story of taboo romance that’s as compelling as it is controversial.
Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As de facto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives—and the way they understand each other so completely—has also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: A love this devastating has no happy ending.

JADE’S REVIEW
Listen Up & Listen Good! Forbidden is a story written on a subject that, in fact, is FORBIDDEN. It’s about a brother and sister, yes blood brother and sister, that fall in love with each other. If you don’t think you can handle this, then turn around.
BUT before you chose to not give this MASTERPIECE another thought, please read on. Im going to explain to you why, even though its not even 3 weeks into January 2015, THIS BOOK WILL BE IN MY TOP 5 for 2015!!!
Lochan & Maya are the older siblings of 5. Their “family life” is non-existent due to the fact that their father left them, remarried and started a new “better” family and their mother is a drunken whore (sorry but its true) who would rather go out with men than take care of her 5 children. So at the young age of 17 & 16, Lochan & Maya took on the responsibility of caring for themselves and the little ones. Still being in school, trying to get scholarships, putting food on the table, keeping Kit out of trouble can take a toll on teenagers. With no one else to turn to, Lochan & Maya lean on each other. Their bond is unbreakable. The love they share is stronger than anything Ive ever felt in a book. Lines are crossed though and that love they once felt for each other becomes romantic.
Once these lines are blurred however, Lochan’s mental state deteriorates dramatically. The pressure and stress of his family situation is immense, but he is now constantly making sure no one finds out about his love for Maya, for the fear of his siblings being taken away and split up is unbearable. All you want to do is hug this poor kid and cry with him, for him….
Tabitha Suzuma’s writing is spectacular. The way her words rip your heart out over and over again is incredible. I haven’t read a book this week written in a VERY long time. Suzuma’s characters are brilliant and real, and beautifully tortured souls.
I found myself actually ROOTING for these siblings to be together. I wanted them to finally find a happiness they have never had. NOW THAT’S some damn good writing. Where this story takes you is unlike anything I have EVER read. The knot in my stomach and the sorrow that I felt and still feel for Lochan & Maya will never leave me. This story is NOT happy… IT will NOT make you gush or blush. It will make you sad and will torture you for weeks to come. I have a VERY Hard time thinking that FORBIDDEN will be knocked out of my top 5 for 2015… It’s almost impossible…. READ IT….. IT’S PHENOMENAL!!!!!
