My mind was saying NO! Don’t do it. Please don’t do it! Then I thought wow this is a train wreck but I can’t stop reading. The first chapter, which is aptly titled “Worst Terrible F***-up” caught my attention, then it chugged along for a bit, quickly picked up speed, before winding up for a BIG finish. If you’ve never read Kelly Siskind before, I’m pointing this out so that you will continue reading – it will be worth it.
Gwen Hamilton’s birthday is ground zero for that WTF-up night. A huge misunderstanding leads to a situation where people who are using each other, end up hurting others and themselves. Best friends that should have transitioned into more but for that one disastrous night. Gwen’s mother, Mary, dies which sets events in motion and though it seems impossible, August Cruz, the love of her life, who she thought forever lost to her, is somehow standing on her doorstep.
9 & 36 – Nine years since that night. Thirty-Six hours before August gets on a plane back to Germany. Thirty six hours in which to deliver news Gwen has been waiting her whole life to hear. The identity of Gwen’s father and how Mary’s life evolved is a compelling mystery engagingly woven through Licks that serves to move this love story forward. Will solving it be enough to bring these two together? Will August come clean before it’s too late? Can Gwen and August forgive each other and heal their hearts? As so often is the case, things are not as they seem.
