I am in awe of A.M. Hudson’s imagination. She has created this world that sucks you in and pulls you away from your everyday life.
This is the fourth book in The Dark Secret Series. You must read the first three in order to understand what is going on or you will be completely lost. I will say, this book is all about lies that have been told. There is a lot of history and it can get a little tricky to keep track of. That is probably the only reason this isn’t a perfect five for me.
I started to read this book on the beta team and I had to step back. This is my favorite paranormal and I think I started to feel like when I read this I needed it to be perfect. When I read this series that’s what it feels like, a perfect story.
I ugly cried about three times with in this story, and I can not even begin to tell you how many times I cried in this entire series.
The love story that is told here is incredibly heart breaking. My soul aches a bit for David and Ara. So many cards have been stacked against them. Things have been stacked against Ara before her existence. Then Jase….it’s hard to find the right words for Jase without giving this away. A huge part of my heartbreak in this story has to do with other characters in Ara’s life. I’m sad for her that her relationships with Mike and Emily have turned so distant. I am also to glad to see that she decides to trust Falcon.
Somethings that have you hurting for Ara is to watch all that she gives up as queen. She looses her family and friends and is completely ready to give her life on more than one occasion. For anyone who is not sold on Ara, I think in this story she really begins to turn from a child to a queen. This story is not only about Ara owning up to past mistakes as it is about her growing up enough to deal with the consequence.
So many things are revealed in this story. David shows an ugliness that up until this point has only been alluded to. He is callus and cruel. I was shocked at his level of hatred that is burrowed deep with in him. There are so many reminders that he is not human and yet part of you understands it. Here is a man who just months prior, was thrown into a fire to burn to near nothing as a means to keep Ara safe only to learn of her betrayal. Oh The heart ache
Jase fans I’m sure were super excited throughout this story. Yet as a hopeless romantic, a huge part of me hopes that time will heal some wounds.
After every story I have stalked A.M. Hudson’s facebook page in hopes of any spoilers. This is no different. I woke up this morning thinking about everything Ara has endured and I want more, so much more.
