What is it about a cowboy? Seriously. Is it the hat? The way they sit a horse? The way their jeans hug their…? From John Wayne to Tim McGraw (I know he isn’t a cowboy, but really, the way he looks in a cowboy hat and jeans makes him a cowboy in my book!), there is something about them. In Sawyer Bennett’s newest book, Wicked Fall (Wicked Horse #1), we get our cowboy fix and then some.
When Callie Hart comes back to town after finding her lawyer fiancé taking a beating from a vinyl wearing judge, she decides that it’s time to leave the “Old Callie” behind and find out who “New Callie” wants to be. Wanting to make the change NOW, she goes in the exact opposite direction of her former life and enters a wet t-shirt contest at The Wicked Horse. Just as she is about to announce to herself that she is a new woman, her night is interrupted by the incredibly hot bar owner who just happens to be her lifelong crush. Woolf Jennings immediately recognizes Callie and jumps in to save her from certain embarrassment. And that right there is all it takes for both of them to realize that they aren’t kids anymore, and times have changed.
The chemistry between Woolf and Callie is amazing. They have circled each other before, but this time there are no reasons to hold back. When Callie discovers the other side of Woolf’s business, she wants to see it, and maybe be a part of it. Woolf isn’t too keen on any of this, but his attraction to Callie doesn’t necessarily allow him to think clearly.
Sawyer Bennett’s writing is rock solid, as always. Her characters are fun, sexy, and deeper than they seem on the surface. I love that about her writing. What I really love is how with each new series or book, she pushes boundaries and buttons. With as many books as she has written, you may worry that things are new stories on old themes, but they are not!! Sawyer Bennett’s writing keeps getting better and better, her stories fresh and her characters more layered. I’m really looking forward to the next installment in the series. If it’s anything like this one, it’s gonna be a wild ride!

You can’t go wrong with a “horse” series! I think this might be a great fall read for me, I’ll need a new series to read. I am reading the Alexandra’s Order series by Emilia Rutigliano and it’s been awesome. alexandrasorder.com is the series site. I really have enjoyed it, great characters!
