Anyone who’s ever read a Sawyer Bennett book knows that they are in for a treat. From down and dirty to funny and smart, she always delivers. The Pecker Briefs is no different. The seventh installment in the Legal Affairs series has opposing counsel heating up the courtroom over a woodpecker. Who knew peckers could be so controversial?

Viveka jones isn’t just your average law practicing lawyer. No, she specializes in animal rights. When a huge developer tries to develop land where an endangered species of woodpecker lives, she is called on by a local animal rights group to stop the destruction of the birds’ habitat.

Ford Daniels represents the developer who wants to deforest the land where the woodpeckers roost. He has no problem spending his client’s money to find top experts who can “verify” that no woodpeckers live in the wooded areas of the land. No matter what happens with the case, Ford will be paid handsomely.

Viveka and Ford are great together both in and out of the courtroom/bedroom. Their chemistry is undeniable and their mutual respect for each other is what great partnerships are built on. In addition to some naughty and nice, I think my favorite part of this book is that both Viveka and Ford are older, as in gray at the temples and comfortable in their own skin older. It isn’t often that I get to read a book where the characters are more mature and wise. It’s quite refreshing.

I really enjoyed this book. I truly liked Ford and Viveka, both as a couple and as individuals. The Pecker Briefs is a quick read that will leave you happy and satisfied at the end. Having read several of the other books in the Legal Affairs series, I can attest to the fact that The Pecker Briefs is as funny, smart and sexy as the other installments.
