A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is the second book in the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series. In this sequel, Bennett continues her world-building and gives us some more information on Finley, Carrick, and what their futures might entail.
There was so much angst at the beginning of this book that it stressed me out, which is a good thing in my opinion! Being sucked so far into the story that I was feeling so many emotions means I was fully invested in Finley and her journey as she came to terms with the events at the end of The Revelation of Light and Dark.
I also enjoyed that we got more chapters from Carrick’s perspective. He’s as mysterious to the reader as he is to Finley unless you’re reading things from his perspective and I loved that we got to see into his head more. I’m hoping that we continue to get more from his point of view as the series continues!
The relationship between Finley and her friends was a focal point of A Discovery of Secrets and Fate and I enjoyed going deeper into the relationships she has with her roommates. While the will-they/won’t-they dynamic between Finley and Carrick is fun, platonic relationships are so important in a story too! Focusing on Finley’s relationships with Myles, Rainey, and Adira gives the reader more insight to who she is as a person and what she values.
I’m really looking forward to book three, The Evolution of Fae and Gods!
