When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Ugly love is the kind of book that is not easily forgotten. It stays with you long after you finish. It’s in the back of your mind and it replays over and over. The anticipation throughout keeps you wound up like a spring. Then in the last 25% you are hit with the truth and there’s no escape. It happens so fast it’s like a blur. It’s extremely hard to digest and some parts are excruciating!!
Miles is a beautiful man and successful in his career. He seems to have it all going for him… But we quickly learn, he is beyond mysterious and tortured. You can feel his pain radiating off him. When he meets Tate, she brings out the real Miles, the Miles he keeps buried away. He’s so guilt ridden. He purposely blocks out any happiness or emotions. He doesn’t feel he is worthy… Continually telling Tate that casual is all he can give her. His story alternates from his past to his present, giving you a glimpse of who he used to be…. a time of innocents and first loves. A time before he was tainted.
Tate is your typical insecure 23 year old girl. We have all been like her at one point in our lives…. She is love sick and completely enamored by Miles. She just can not resist him. Desperately trying to keep their relationship simple and casual. Taking anything Miles will give her. She is finding their casual arrangement difficult to maintain, because Miles is slowly becoming her everything. Can she break through his cold exterior? Can he ever become the old Miles again? Miles’ story will crush you. It’s heart-wrenching and beyond inconceivable. Your heart will shatter and you will ugly cry.
Ugly love is very different for Colleen Hoover. It’s deeper and darker. In true Colleen fashion, she has once again created fascinating characters. Not only are they realistic but they have the ability to implant themselves deep in your soul. The book was a slow and steady build up. It held my attention and I found myself thinking about it often. The best was saved for the last 25%… It brought every thing together. I was hoping for another 25%, so we could have gotten in even deeper…… I needed just a bit more!
