From the author of Make it Count comes the first novel in the In Focus series…
With his college graduation gown expertly pitched into the trash, Justin Akron is ready for the road trip he planned with his best friend Landry— and ready for one last summer of escape from his mother’s controlling grip. Climbing into the Winnebago his father left him, they set out across America in search of the sites his father had captured through the lens of his Nikon. As an aspiring photographer, Justin can think of no better way to honor his father’s memory than to scatter his ashes at the sites he held sacred. And there’s no one Justin would rather share the experience with more than Landry.
But Justin knows he can’t escape forever. Eventually, he’ll have to return home and join his mother’s Senate campaign. Nor can he escape the truth of who he is, and the fact that he’s in love with his out-and-proud travel companion.
Admitting what he wants could hurt his mother’s conservative political career. But with every click of his shutter and every sprinkle of ash, Justin can’t resist Landry’s pull. And when the truth comes into focus, neither is prepared for the secrets the other is hiding.
5 Heartfelt Stars!!
At a blog we are extremely lucky to get an abundance of requests to read books. Most of these books we would have probably missed otherwise. We received an arc of Trust the Focus By Megan Erickson. It was sent to us for an honest review. As soon as I read the synopsis I was elated. This story called to me and I just knew I had to read it. My instincts were correct. I found myself relishing every moment in this book. I could not contain the smile on my face and the warmth in my heart. It was like hitting the lottery in the book world, I had stumbled upon that perfect book. How lucky am I?? It is such a fun, unique and emotional journey! The story is filled with a barrage of emotions, but also with witt and laughter. It’s a story about grief, finding yourself, making mistakes, stumbling through it, but getting right back up. Growing up and taking control of your own life and choices. It’s also an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking love story!
Two best friends, Justin and Landry set out on a road trip cross country In a Winnebago. Justin wants to honor his father by spreading his ashes in the many places his father had held dear. It’s not all fun and games, Justin has been carrying around a huge secret that he can no longer contain, but if it comes out it can change everything. He is desperately in love with Landry and Landry has no clue. His yearning and desire is all consuming. While Landry is out and proud, Justin has gone through life in the closet. His mother rules his every decision and her plan for him does not involve another man, especially not Landry. My heart broke for Justin, how horrible to have to hide and feel shame about who you are… He feels trapped in a false life and you can feel his torment. He desperately wants acceptance but needs the courage to ask for it.
“I wouldn’t change it, you know.”
“The girls, the other boys, everything we experienced before this moment. Because that was all wrong. And I think we needed to feel what was wrong to know what’s right.”
There are a multitude of tender and poignant moments throughout. The intimacy and chemistry between the boys was tangible. Learning how to be a couple and exploring their sexuality. I also found there banter and dialog spot on, witty, genuine and raw. Justin and Landry, every time I think of them, I just sigh….. They have definitely hit a soft spot within me. I love them equally and unconditionally. This book has so many wonderful attributes. I can not praise it enough. This is my first book by Megan and certainly not my last. This lady can write!
I took a deep breath and clenched my fists. We had a right to exist. To be who we were. Fuck everyone else. (Justin’s thoughts)
I could not agree more!! Love is love!
