Review Tour ~~ The Crush by Penelope Ward
Christina’s 3.5 Blush Review
This was a sweet read with some steamy romance thrown in the mix. Jace and Farrah (love that name) are cute together. Best friend’s little sister and friends to lovers are two of my favorite tropes. Throw in the fact that Jace and Farrah have basically grown up together and you have an innocent, slow-burn romantic story with a little emotional complexity I wasn’t expecting.
I enjoyed watching Jace snd Farrah finally accept their feelings for one another, but at times felt the characters’ behaviors were slightly immature and naive. I also didn’t connect well with Farrah’s brother Nathan who is a central character and his involvement in their romance seemed unnecessarily contrived. That being said, there was a deeper, emotional component to the story that I think made up for the characters’ shortcomings. Fans of Penelope Ward will enjoy snuggling under the blankets and staying warm with this one!
Louisa’s 3.5 Blush Review
Jace and Farrah were friends first – well – Jace and Farrah’s brother were best friends. Farrah, 6 years younger, has had a crush on Jace forever. There is some back story to how their relationship has connections – a connection that no one wants. Jace leaves for college and years later returns. Farrah is now 21 years old and nope – she’s not that little girl who used to chew on her hair…she’s a beautiful grown woman. One problem – Nathan – her brother.
I loved the push and pull between these two – there is a serious slow burn going on. But once they finally connect it’s definitely not all butterflies and unicorns.
This story was so emotional at times that my breath was taken away. I wished for more character depth – I wanted more from Nathan’s character – he’s a good guy but he just didn’t always come off like that. I think the story behind these friendships and relationships was great and I wished for a bit more. Still another great story by Penelope Ward that deserves to be read!
