Review: SCARS AND SONGS by Christine Zolendz
Shane Maxton is front man for New York City’s popular rock band, Mad World. But he has secrets; he’s not what everybody thinks he is.
He comes from an ancient world, from a different time, when angels walked among men.
Read the story, through Shane’s eyes, of his forbidden love, his fall from grace and his inner turmoil from living with the irrational emotions of being human.
Disclaimer #1: This is the story of Mad World Books 1 & 2, Fall From Grace and Saving Grace, written through the point of view of Shane Maxton.
IT IS THE SAME Love STORY of Grace and Shane. It’s just Shane’s turn to tell it to you, it’s everything you’ve read before and a whole lot more.
Disclaimer #2: This story contains rock and roll, angels doing naughty things, violence, cursing, drinking alcohol, substance abuse, sexual situations, and irritating scenes that will make you want to hurl your eReader or book out the window. It’s not suitable for anyone under the age of 18
Nicole’s Review 4.5 Stars
Having read and loved Fall From Grace and Saving Grace, the first 2 books in Christine Zolendz Mad World series, in record time; I could not wait to get my hands on the third book, Scars and Songs. The third book retells Grace and Shane’s story, but from the unique perspective of Shane. Yep, that’s right! A whole book of Shane’s super sexy, raspy voice and what happened when Grace was busy telling her side of the story. Scars and Songs lets the reader hear exactly what Shane went through to be with Grace. We also find out the entire back story of how Grace and Shane came to be. The paranormal elements of the story are explored in more detail, but still let the reader focus on the story and not the more “ethereal” aspects.
In Scars and Songs, Christine Zolendz gives us Shane’s entire journey from Hell to the present and she does so with wit, sarcasm and compassion. Shane’s POV is often heartbreaking and snort soda of your nose funny. (It’s true. I snorted soda out of my nose not once, but twice because of the absolutely hilarious things Shane says!) Hearing how Shane tells his side of the story gives the reader a chance to see the incredibly devoted and determined person that Shane is. We see the depth of his love for Grace and all of the things he will do to make her his. We also see what a total idiot he can be!! Zolendz does an amazing job of tapping into how a guy thinks and the stupid things they say and do! There were so many times that I had to wonder if Zolendz is the only girl in a family with 6 brothers. She is spot on in her descriptions.
Scars and Songs is such a great way to hear the other side of the story. I rate it 4.5 stars! I will admit that as I neared the end of the book, I got a little sad that Grace and Shane’s story was coming to an end. And then I read the ending…was it a cliffhanger or the satisfying end to a journey? I guess that is for the reader to decide!

Shane Maxton! My hot sexy book boyfriend with a coochie award winning smile how I missed you!
I was messaging Dawn: I missed some Shane
Dawn: Me too!
Yep thats how you feel about Shane Maxton. Through Graces eyes he was a sexy, sexy man. But from Shane Maxton’s eyes he is a tortured soul. If I thought he was sexy before, now I see him, albeit still sexy, but as a broken shattered man. So many times, my heart would break for him.
I know what happens in this story, well because this is Shane’s story and you really need to read Fall From Grace and Saving Grace first, but even though I knew what I would get, I never expected to have my heart hurt so much for him.
This was very much like reading a story for the first time. It’s an alternative POV and it is so beautiful though Shane’s eyes.
So this is a paranormal, read, but in so many ways it does not feel that way. I would recommend this series to anyone who is unsure about paranormal and whether or not they would enjoy it. It never feels to overdone. It is sexy, entertaining, and Shane Maxton holds your heart all the way through.
