Review: PLAY (Stage Dive #2) by Kylie Scott
Release Date: March 25, 2014
Description
Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller LICK.
Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl.
Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?
Dawn’s Review 5 Stars
Mal! Mal! Mal!! Now if only I can find a way to score some drum sticks from that hot, sexy, funny as f*ck Mal…
In all seriousness, it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for more of my Mal fix after finishing Lick. I can still remember my utter fascination with the naughty drummer of Stage Dive after reading David and Evelyn’s story!! And Play did not disappoint! Kylie Scott delivers witty banter between Anne and Mal, along with many moments including the rest of Stage Dive and their family members. She has a knack for engaging dialogue amongst her characters which makes the story flow beautifully. I found myself turning pages as fast as possible, laughing my ass off, and finding a need to change my panties when Mal turned up the heat! *swoon*
Play gave me a chance to catch up with Davie and Ev, and piqued my interest about the next stories in the Stage Dive series. Anne is practically body-slammed by Mal with his humor and panty-scorcher moments. Yet, there’s more than meets the eye with Mal. I loved seeing the many sides of him. I found Anne’s personality hilarious and her internal dialogue one that had me snort-giggling several times. Kylie’s writing style drops me right into the lives of the Stage Dive in such a way that I wasn’t observing, I was THERE. I love that when I get lost in a story like that.
Overall, Kylie Scott’s Play is sexy, naughty, and hilarious with a side note of serious that makes it all so real. I’m an affirmed Stage Dive groupie and I’m ready to follow those men on tour wherever they go! Rock on!!
Abby’s Review 4 stars
Wow Kylie Scott’s humor and storytelling ability is addicting! I quickly was looking at my plans for the day and trying to figure out what I could skip out on so that I could read more Play. I figured, I could read in the car, skip out on a play date early and then I should be able to squeeze in more! Because once you start this is exactly how you feel. Even when it ended I was still feeling that way.
For me Mal is a bit over the top. Dawn loved this about him, I kind of thought maybe he was a little on the loco side. But you find out that some of his crazy behavior is a result of something that is happening with him. You sure are feeling bad for him when it does happen.
I liked Anne so much! She is not afraid to be herself and go after what she wants. Fearless in so many ways!! I love when a lead can take the balls by the, oops I me the bull by the horns, and really play with them, wait I mean go for it! She can be brazen and I loved that about her.
The pace and heat in this is dead on! It’s sexy, it’s funny and it’s got a good mix of drama that is not so over the top that it’s unbelievable.
My tiny criticism, some of the Aussie words are a distraction to me. Dawn easily got over this, but for me details hang me up. This probably won’t bug you, I’m just an anal reader.
Regardless of Mal’s over the top personality and a few minor things, I was completely hooked with this story. We also get a little more David Ferris and swoon, don’t I love him!!!
