Synopsis He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three. He speaks Spanish. I speak English. He lives in Spain. I live in Canada. He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos. He’s married and has a five-year old daughter. I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything. Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth. *** To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love. Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more. Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time. Something that can never, ever be. Or so she thinks.
Dawn’s Review 5++ Stars How to even begin to write this review…I really don’t know that I can give this one the review it deserves, but here goes!
Love, in English has left me with a book hangover and I’m still struggling to find something to read to compare to it! I can feel the emotion rising in me as I type. Emotions for Mateo and Vera’s story and how it impacted me. Stories like this are what make me passionate about reading and have me searching for the next book like it. Love, in English is such a beautiful, emotionally-charged, consuming book. Karina Halle transported me to Vancouver and Spain through her flawless descriptions and the emotions evoked by her characters’ interactions and the relationships they built. I knew Karina has passionate followers for her Experiment in Terror series and The Artists Trilogy but this is her first foray into contemporary romance. And I say, keep writing it, Karina! I was romanced by Mateo and Spain, just as Vera was. I felt all of Vera’s conflicted emotions about falling for a married man. And my heart ached for them knowing that life and love is complicated. Yet, could also be very simple. The story builds smoothly and beautifully. I loved the funny language moments that further made this story so real and so relatable. Add in some fascinating secondary characters and you have a story that keeps you reading late into the night. Overall, Karina Halle immersed me into the world of Vera and Mateo and I was severely reluctant to leave. Her ability to express the quiet, charged moments between them left me with emotions so close to the surface that I felt them for days. I’ll definitely be reading more from Karina, once this book hangover wears off! Kristine’s 5 star review: So I just finished this beautifully written love story by Karina Halle, and I am in awe of this author’s writing! OMG!!!!! LOVED THIS BOOK!! This is my first book that I read for Karina and I am definitely a huge fan, she had me at Mateo! This story is based on a brilliant one of a kind idea that blew me away! Love when I read a story that is so different and unique from a lot of love stories I read! There is not one thing that I didn’t love about this book! It had everything to feed my greedy reader needs! Characters, setting, feel and voice was perfect! Mateo and Vera’s story is a must read! You’ll absolutely love how they met, how they got to know each other, and their journey in finding out love just ain’t that easy. You will love the laughs, cries, and sweats that this book will give you! Hope your Kindle is protected, cause mine almost suffered a catastrophe. Thank you Karina for this and for my amazing mind trip to Spain!!!
Dawn C’s 5 star review:
Love, in English is exactly that!! It’s a perfect modern day love story. It is different and unique. Right from the beginning, it will captivate you and work it’s way into your soul. It is so refreshing to see such real characters. I love the whole slow build up. It helps you fall madly in love with Mateo and Vera. Their chemistry is beyond palpable. Two souls destined to find each other. Even when they have everything stacked against against them. Complete opposites. You forget the right and wrong and just live in the moment. I was so emotionally involved, I ached and cried right along with them. It’s the epitome of romance. The Spanish backdrop made this book even more romantic. The place, culture and people will have you wanting to jump on a plane. I loved everything about this book. It is absolutely perfect! You need to experience this book…..
With her USA Today Bestselling The Artists Trilogy published by Grand Central Publishing, numerous foreign publication deals, and self-publishing success with her Experiment in Terror series, Vancouver-born Karina Halle is a true example of the term “Hybrid Author.” Though her books showcase her love of all things dark, sexy and edgy, she’s a closet romantic at heart and strives to give her characters a HEA…whenever possible.
