Review: LOVE HACKED by Penny Reid
Expected Release: March 11, 2014
Synopsis
There are three things you need to know about Sandra Fielding: 1) She makes all her first dates cry, 2) She hasn’t been kissed in over two years, and 3) She knows how to knit.
Sandra has difficulty removing her psychotherapist hat. Of her last 30 dates, 29 have ended the same way: the man sobbing uncontrollably. After one such disaster, Sandra–near desperation and maybe a little tipsy–gives in to a seemingly harmless encounter with her hot waiter, Alex. Argumentative, secretive, and hostile Alex may be the opposite of everything Sandra knows is right for her. But now, the girl who has spent all her life helping others change for the better, must find a way to cope with falling for someone who refuses to change at all.

Nicole’s Review 5 Stars
I am going to say it right here at the beginning of my review…Love Hacked by Penny Reid is amazing!! I give it 5 stars! 5 stars, people!! Love Hacked is the third installment in the Knitting in the City series, and it is my favorite so far. Reid’s writing style, her expression of her inner geek and her quick wit are all on full display throughout this book.
In Love Hacked, we get to know Sandra Fielding. Sandra is a psychiatrist with a penchant for making grown men cry. None of these men are her patients. They are her dates; first dates to be exact. As a result, Sandra is having a tough time getting to first base, if you know what I mean. Like, she hasn’t been kissed in 2 years! Witness to all of these dating catastrophes is Alex. Hot, sex on a stick Alex who is freakishly smart and incredibly innocent when it comes to women. Alex is a waiter at the restaurant where Sandra meets all of her dates. After watching Sandra make yet another grown man cry, Alex makes a move on her that leaves both of them breathless and Sandra with the knowledge that her libido is still working!
As the rest of their story unfolds, we are treated to a great plot full of intrigue (what the heck is a bitcoin), suspense (why are people after them), hilarity (Bonergate), and red hot steaminess (figs for dinner)!! Woven in all of this is a sweet and funny love story with characters that are both authentic and relatable. Sandra is so incredibly honest with herself and the world around her. Alex is somewhat of a misfit caught somewhere in the middle of man and child. He is absolutely adorable in this way and smoking hot in every other way.
Penny Reid is one of my favorite authors. The women she writes are so very real. The women in this series represent, in many ways, a little bit of all of us. We all have an inner-geek. We can be self-deprecating and insecure. Many of us rely on a circle of friends to keep us real, entertained and supported. When you add hot men who could easily fit into every woman’s fantasy to this, you get great stories that take you in on the first page and leave you content on the last page!

Book 2: Friends Without Benefits
Penny Reid has difficulty writing about herself in the third person. She finds it strange and unsettling. Therefore, Penny will now switch to the first person.
I’m originally from California but now live in the Southeast US with my family. I work full time in the biotech industry as a researcher. I work a lot. I’m also a full time mom to two diminutive adults (boy-5 and girl-3), wife, daughter, knitter, crocheter, sewer, general crafter, and thought hijacker.
I don’t like to sit still unless I’m writing, reading, or knitting and I usually only knit in my knitting group… or at red lights while stuck in traffic. I only read on planes (where I’m trapped). Luckily, I travel a lot for work.
The voices in my head (characters) became so loud over the summer of 2012- specifically, Janie Morris- that I was forced to write Neanderthal Seeks Human, my first attempt at a full length novel. It took me 7 months.
If I could have any job in the world it would be my job because I feel like what I do makes a tangible difference in the lives of every living person. If I could have any life in the world it would be my life. Happiness is the seed of good fortune and success. Do what it takes to be happy and be a source of happiness for others.
