Review: COLLIDE by Gail McHugh
Note: Alternate/new cover edition for ASIN# B00B385VCU
A missed first encounter…
Colliding with a second chance…
On the heels of graduating college and trying to cope with her mother’s death, Emily Cooper moves to New York City for a fresh start.
While harboring secrets of his own, Dillon Parker takes care of Emily through her grief. Knowing he can’t live without her by his side, he’s sweet, thoughtful, and everything Emily has ever wanted in a man.
Until she meets Gavin Blake—a rich and notorious playboy who is dangerously sexy and charming as hell. Emily tries to deny the instant connection she feels, but Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome is not inclined to let go so easily. Recovering from his own painful past, Gavin will stop at nothing to win Emily over.
This unexpected encounter compels Emily to question her decisions, forcing her to make a choice that will destroy friendships, shatter hearts, and forever change her life.
Abby’s Review 5 stars
Wow! Gavin, Mother fucking Blake! He maybe the holy grail of all book boyfriends. Mr. Tall, Dark, and fuckable.
“Yes, he was that good looking. Take your breath away good looking. Want to strip your body naked and let him devour you alive good looking. Certified eye candy good looking.”
Never a man to believe in love at first sight, as soon as he sees Emily, his whole world is changed. When you read about this love at first sight your world is changed a little too.
“She was an assault on his senses, a constant thirst needing to be quenched.”
Emily is in a relationship with the biggest douchebag, Dillon. I know some readers hate when there is cheating in a story. In this story however you see Dillon for the controlling prick he is. And it is questionable if there was truly cheating.
Emily has a bestie Olivia that is pretty frickin cool! She is a ball buster, for sure! She is open about who she is and she does not care what anyone thinks. I also like her brother. Overall I think the sub characters here are a great addition.
In general Gavin Blake just made this for me! He was so sexy and tortured by his love for Emily. This is a cliffhanger, but don’t despair, we waited to read this until the sequel was out! Check out our reviews for Pulse.

“Attracting, compelling, colliding, their chemistry – to say the least – was explosive.”
Wow!! Gail McHugh has an amazingly artistic touch to her writing. She paints very vivid images throughout the entire story that give you goosebumps and leave you on an almost sensory overload with the imagery.
This story had me from the very beginning! I was caught up in the intense emotions faced by Emily as she first experiences her mother’s death, and then learns to make her way in a city completely foreign to her. At times, I really wanted Emily to have a bit more of a backbone, particularly when it came to Dillon and the completely awful ways in which he treated her.
And then there’s Gavin Blake…*sigh*…He’s a bottle-cap tossing, Yankees-lovin’, alpha male with an insatiable need to be with Emily. Damn! Who can blame Emily for wanting to also be with him? But there’s that annoying little situation with Dillon, her boyfriend! Is it possible for her to let him go? Is Gavin done with his past? But how to argue with the intense emotional attraction and pull that they have for each other?
I loved the secondary characters, too. Olivia, her best friend, had me laughing out loud constantly with her don’t give a damn attitude. I felt they all added to the story without overpowering it with their own stories.
As you can imagine this book takes you from highs to lows and makes you want to scream a few times! I loved the absolute intensity of it and as it is a cliffhanger (I run from those!), I am SO glad I chose to wait to read it until Pulse was available.
I’ve always been a lover of writing, but mostly dabbled in creating poetry while raising my three beautiful children. I am grateful my husband of fifteen years has supported me—albeit sometimes kicking and screaming—as I pursue this “hobby” of mine. Without his help, writing would be an impossible endeavor.
In late June 2012, I felt an urgent tug of my pen, and I began writing one of my first novels, Collide. Although I thought it might never see the light of day, it gave me the courage to plunge headfirst onto a path I had never considered before.
