Review: BETWEEN BOYFRIENDS by Sarka-Jonae Miller
Release Date: November 11, 2013
Synopsis
Between Boyfriends is a finalist for the Ephraim Prize from the MARSocial Author of the Year Competition
At first glance, twenty-one-year-old Jan Weston has it all: a gorgeous boyfriend, fun friends, and wealthy parents who take care of all those pesky credit card bills.
Then her boyfriend dumps her, her friendships fall apart, and her parents cut her off. Suddenly without money, without a man, and without a plan, it’s time for Jan to grow up.
Determined to get her life back on track, Jan decides it’s time to make it on her own. Can she find her way as a single lady in San Diego? Can she fix her friendships, her job prospects, and her hair? And can she keep her vow that she’ll never date again, even after she meets a guy who just might be perfect for her?
BETWEEN BOYFRIENDS is a sexy, hilarious story of living life, finding love, and growing up… but not necessarily in that order.

Nicole’s Review 3.75 Stars
Every now and then, I am totally caught off guard by a book. I am a synopsis reader, mostly because I like a context before I start a book. And I am guilty of making a judgment on a book based solely on the synopsis. Sometimes, my first impressions are right on and other times…not so much. Going into Sarka-Jonae Miller’s Between Boyfriends, I thought I had this book all figured out. Let me tell you now…I wasn’t even close! Between Boyfriends was supposed to be about a spoiled twenty something who’s biggest problem is to decide what time she has to get out of bed for class. I. WAS. SO WRONG.
In Between Boyfriends, we meet Jan. Jan is spoiled. She is rich. She seems to have it all, right down to the cute boyfriend and Daddy’s credit card. Jan’s life really isn’t that interesting or difficult. Then, the bottom drops out of her world. First, her boyfriend dumps her. Then, friendships that she thought were tried and true start to fall apart right before her eyes. Finally, Jan is dealt a crushing blow when her parents cut her off financially. What’s a girl to do? Let me tell you. She hits rock bottom. She has to figure out how she will support herself (and fast). And she will figure out who she is and what she really wants out of life. THAT is when her life gets interesting and difficult!!
Sarka-Jonae Miller tells a great story that is filled with interesting characters, who are funnier than they know. Their interactions with each other are quite entertaining. The way she develops the character Jan is done very well. Jan’s evolution over the course of the book is written in such a way that I wanted to keep reading because I really wanted to know what would happen next! There is a rhythm and way to Miller’s writing that keeps the reader interested and engaged.
I give Between Boyfriends 3.75 stars. It is an easy read that fits the bill of “chick lit” quite well. There is a sequel to this book, Between the Sheets. It is now on my “to be read” list!
