The Manwhore Versus The Maneater
Finn McManus thrives on his reputation as a player’s player – a term that has nothing to do with his years as a professional athlete. A notorious flirt and ladies man, the handsome, charming retired football player rarely dates a woman more than a few times, and shies away from relationships like they were a contagious disease. And despite his parents’ decades long, blissfully happy marriage, Finn just can’t see himself ever being in the same situation.
Delilah Ferris has acquired her own reputation over the years as something of a maneater. She makes no bones about the fact that she expects to call the shots in the relationship, and that she’ll never be any man’s fool. And when she meets her new neighbor Finn for the first time, she automatically puts him in the same category as her handsome, playboy father – the same father who not only broke her heart too many times to count but broke their family as well. Delilah has always vowed to steer clear of heartbreakers like Finn McManus, unwilling to ever fall victim to his charms.
But when the gorgeous, tempting Delilah quickly becomes the only woman Finn has eyes for, he pulls out all the stops to convince her to go out with him. And if Delilah weakens her resolve and agrees, will she regret her decision sooner than later? Or will the coach finally manage to whip this player into shape?
Sandy’s 3.5 Blush Review
Finn McManus is a retired NFL player with a cushy tv sportscaster job. He’s not a bad guy – just a manwhore literal slob who trades on his reputation, good looks, and charm to draw a trail of young willing women to his bed. Each body morphing into another without making any impression on him. Despite being almost 40, he has no intention of changing his lifestyle because he is happy with things the way they are right now. Then he lays eyes on his new neighbor, Delilah Ferris.
Delilah Ferris has everything going her way. Professionally, she is the CEO of her own successful fashion company and is on the cusp of taking it to the next level. Personally, she is so busy that dates with a string of handsome successful men, sometimes involving sex, were all she needed. No strings, no feelings, no long-term commitments because no way would she be any man’s plaything. Her own father taught her that lesson as a little girl. Her neighbor, Finn McManus, is just the same kind of man as her father. Avoiding him at all costs is top of her list. So what if her assistant calls her a man-eater? She’s happy to wear the title.
Manwhore v Man-eater – what an interesting dilemma. Each one of them has preconceived notions about each other and they’re both right. They each quickly learn that all bets are off when it comes to each other. Finn bends over backward to gain an in with Delilah. Completely going against his character so that Delilah will go out with him. Delilah wants nothing to do with Finn. Tries to avoid him at all costs and yet he’s wearing down her denials.
Janet Nissenson knows her way around a sex scene for sure. Truth be told, I didn’t like Finn or Delilah very much. Finn is a jerk and Delilah is stuck up. Though I found the interactions between Finn/Delilah and their friends funny, enjoyable and real. These two may have undeniable chemistry but is it enough to let go of their long-held beliefs? That’s the question.
Finn scrambling to change his playbook to catch the girl that hasn’t succumbed to his charms was very interesting. Delilah fending off the very strong objections of the most important person in her life was, to me, the most emotional part.
I found some of the self-talk wordy. However, it didn’t take away from enjoying the story as a whole.
