“This is more. This is everything.”
Denver has loved only one girl, Aubrey (Bre). But he lost his opportunity with Bre mainly because of a misunderstandin as teens. Where Denver is popular and confident, Bre is shy and socially awkward. Bre takes the “safe” and easy route, dating and eventually marrying her best friend Gabe.
Six years later Denver receives a phone call from Gabe asking him to look after Bre. Gabe is dying. Denver has never gotten over Bre. Complicating things further, three months after Gabe’s death Bre finds out that she is pregnant with his child. Denver steps up helping out in every way that counts. They work as a great team but Bre has never gotten over her awkwardness and keeps Denver at a distance.
“Gabe is all I knew for years, and I loved what we had. It was easy. Being with him was easy, because he was my best friend. He knew me, understood how awkward I was… or am.”
Four years later things change when Bre desides she should at least try to date. This lights a fire under Denver.
“You’re mine, Bre, and I don’t care what I have to do to prove it. But I will prove it to you one way or another.”
One Last Wish is a fast paced, contemporary Romance. Book 3 in the Shooting Stars series, it can be read as a stand-alone, but I suggest reading the previous books to understand the characters better. As a reader, I am pretty easy. I think this is a series that people will either love or hate. I really enjoyed it. I don’t like to get stuck on love the fussiness readers sometimes have surrounding a book.
I enjoyed Denver’s alpha-ness and Bre’s amazing compassion and love that she has for her daughter. I also enjoyed the tight knit community of friends and family that we see not only in this story but in the previous two as well.
