I often need a book that just makes me smile. One that has some angst, some twists but not heart pounding OMG moments. I found this in Why Now?
This book starts with Kacey waking after a night of drinking. Little does she remember that she agreed to marry her friend Heath. Heath’s mother is sick and he wants her to believe he’s happy and in love before she dies. It’s just a marriage of convenience for both. Kacey is the town joke, she has loved Jake (Heath’s best friend and her best friend’s brother) for her entire life. She has made a fool of herself and everyone knows it. If she marries Heath, he’s happy- his mother’s happy and the town will “get over” her obsession with Jake.
Cue the return of Jake.
Ahhhh Jake. He such a great guy, but Why Now does he have to give in to the feeling he’s always had for Kacey?
Why Why Why?
Enter the angst.
Yes the angst is there but in an amount that isn’t kindle throwing worthy! But enough that I couldn’t stop reading.
I want the best for Kacey. I want the best for Jake. I want the best for Heath…that is what kept me reading.
I have been a Carey Heywood fan for a few years now. I love that she makes believable, “normal” characters that I can relate to. Her books leave me with a sense of closure and happiness which is what I need in books. There is a place for cliffhangers and OMG moments, but for me, Carey Heywood takes me back to the quintessential romance book I have always loved.
