WOW! Truly. Just, wow. What a story! Ms. Martinez has outdone herself in From the Embers, a slow-burn, single-dad, single-mom sort of enemies to lovers romance. There is a really gorgeous love story here, jam packed with all the feels and some swoon worthy moments as well. But the real tipping point into the 5 Star category for me came in the plot lines and the craziest twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.
In the beginning, I wasn’t totally sure about the hero,Eason Maxwell; a fledgling musician with no real means of support and his counterpart Bree, a sort of snobby disbeliever. They were a bit mismatched and I wasn’t convinced I would connect with either of them. WRONG! The best kind of character development happens slowly and gradually, making it genuinely believable and oh so enjoyable. Before I knew it I was really cheering hard for these two, and their growing family. This book just made me FEEL and I love it when I have some kind of visceral reaction to a book like this. At one point I had actual ice cold chills slide down my spine and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I contemplated putting the book down for the night, but the problem with a book like this is that you CANT STOP READING!!!
A great storyline with stellar characters and some heart-stopping twists you won’t see coming.
