New Review: You Really Got Me by Erika Kelly
Emmie Valencia has what it takes to be the music industry’s hottest band manager. She just needs to prove it. Determined to discover a killer new band, Emmie is ready to make her move. First stop: Austin, Texas.
As a sizzling-hot lead singer, Slater Vaughn has no trouble raising heart rates—but his band’s been flat-lining for years. When Emmie, his bandmate’s sister, crashes with them in exchange for some free management, her industry know-how lands them a spot in the biggest music festival in Texas. But it isn’t just her business acumen that catches Slater’s attention. Emmie is sexy and warm, and—for the first time in his life—he wants more.
But as irresistible as Slater is, Emmie is done with musicians. In her experience, a man can’t be a rock star and someone to trust with your heart—but Slater is determined to show her he’s both.
Nicole’s 4 Star Review
Ah…rock star romance, how I love thee! I mean, who doesn’t? Hot front man of a band singing his soul out night after night all the while pining for someone to love the man behind the rocker…be still my heart! Now, just for a minute, imagine the same story, but from a different perspective. In Erika Kelly’s You Really Got Me, we get to see a band on the rise and the woman who will take them to the top!
Emmie has what it takes to make it in the music industry, except a boss who is willing to give her a chance to prove it. Stuck playing social secretary, therapist and babysitter for one of the biggest names in the industry doesn’t give her much time to launch her own management career. When things come to a head with her boss, Emmie moves to Austin to live with her brother and his band mates. While there, she is determined to find the next big band and show everyone that she has what it takes to make it in the industry.
Slater Vaughn is the lead singer for the band Snatch. Together with Emmie’s brother and his other band mates, they are trying to break into the music industry. Without good representation, they know it’s a long shot. Emmie and the guys agree that if she can stay with them (i.e. hide from reality), she will give them free management and help them get off the ground. All of this is well and good until Emmie catches Slater’s ever-roving eye and puts his world of womanizing on its ear! Emmie is no easy catch. Tired of musicians and their egos, Emmie just isn’t having it! Until…
Erika Kelly does a great job of telling Emmie and Slater’s story complete with “Damn, that was hot,” “Oh no, he didn’t,” and “Get out!” There were several times that I was reading along and had a “WHOA!” moment that included a never-saw-it-coming! The chemistry between Slater and Emmie is awesome. Not only are they a very hot couple, they can match wits, push each other’s limits and be the strength and support that they each need.
