New Review~~ The Bachelor Auction (The Bachelors of Arizona #1) by Rachel Van Dyken
Synopsis
Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.
Jane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.
Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. But while they can’t have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .
Nicole’s 4 Star Review
There is nothing like a good tagline in a book synopsis to make you want to read the book!
Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.
Right there, I knew I had to read this book. In The Bachelor Auction, Rachel Van Dyken tells a modern day Cinderella story that is both much like the original tale and completely different. In Rachel Van Dyken’s version, Jane continues to run the family cleaning business after her parents die, while riding herd on her ungrateful older sisters. They disrespect her daily and expect Jane to wait on them hand and foot. They even call her Plain Jane. Jane’s life is a constant routine of working her butt off for others and playing the hired help to her sisters. Brock, our Prince Charming, has the weight of the world on his shoulders. The responsibilities of running the family corporation, keeping his younger brothers out of trouble and/or jail, and trying desperately to not disappoint the grandfather who raised them after their parents died are constant burdens that Brock believes that he alone must carry. When circumstances that only a fairy tale can have bring Jane and Brock together, we see just how dreams can come true and there is a happily ever after.
All in all, I enjoyed this read. It was quick, easy and enjoyable. While there were some eye-rolling moments and times where I wanted to groan, the chemistry between Brock and Jane, the antics of his younger brothers and the hope in a happily ever after kept me up reading long after my bedtime. If you’re looking for a sweet, simple romance, this is the book for you.
