Tenleigh Falyn struggles each day to survive in a small, poverty-stricken, coal mining town where she lives with her sister and mentally ill mother. Her dream of winning the college scholarship given to one student by the local coal company and escaping the harshness of her life, keeps her going.
Kyland Barrett lives in the hills, too, and has worked tirelessly—through near starvation, through deep loneliness, against all odds—to win the Tyton Coal Scholarship and leave the town that is full of so much pain.
They’re both determined not to form any attachments, but one moment changes everything. What happens when only one person gets to win? When only one person gets to leave? And what happens to the one left behind?
Kyland is a story of desperation and hope, loss and sacrifice, pain and forgiveness, but ultimately, a story of deep and unending love.

DAWN’S REVIEW
5 breathtakingly beautiful stars!!
Mia Sheridan remains true to her style, Kyland is another Inspirational and breathtakingly beautiful story….
Mia has the ability to write about anyone or anything. But she chooses to write about people who we normally do not see nor hear about. She gives them a voice while opening our minds. Always showing us the beauty of the human spirit. The survival and bravery of the underdogs. Those are just a few of many reasons, why I love and applaud her!! Each of her characters and stories are uniquely Mia! The porn star, the mute, the hillbilly, the foster child…. the looked over, forgotten and belittled. Showing us our princes don’t always have to own fortune 500 companies and fly helicopters. They can be the boy next door. Her books also take us to unique places. Places we would probably never get to see or even think about, but thanks to Mia, we get a peek into their world. Kyland’s setting is based in Denville Kentucky. In the Appalachian mountains. Her characterization of the town and people brought me there! I could almost smell the lavender. I was on a beach in Aruba while I read it, but I can assure you my mind was in Kentucky!! That’s how powerful her words are… They transport you. I was bawling my eyes out on a beach!!
Putting Mia’s brilliant mind aside, I think it’s her beautiful soul that enables her to put words to the page about such profound subjects. Mia doesn’t give you perfect love, she gives you real unbridled love. She shows you there is beauty and hope in every situation.
“Maybe we all saw books differently based on our own hearts.” I could not agree more. I gravitate towards Mia’s books because they speak to my heart, while getting burned into my soul. (I’d like to believe, that maybe we are soul sisters!!)
It is very hard for me to articulate the feelings I had while reading Kyland. Honestly, the purity and selflessness between Kyland and Tenleigh took my breath away. Their journey will hold you captive. They have been to hell and back. Two true survivors with the biggest hearts and brightest spirits. They are beyond loving, tenacious, and brave. You need to experience their faultless love!! I wish more people were like them, the world would be a better place. I know I am a better person for reading this book.
We are all truly blessed to be able to escape into a Mia Sheridan book! Each and every time, she hits it out of the park. Always a 5 star read!
LOUISA’S REVIEW
Wow…I wasn’t sure that Mia Sheridan could continue to create these sweet, loving men like she has with this series. But she has proven me wrong. With each introduction to her characters I am awed at her grace and abilities. Mia’s unbelievable tendency to touch my soul again and again with her characters is breathtaking. My inability to write this review make me crazy. I wish everyone would just believe me when I say…READ THIS BOOK…while you are at it, READ ALL OF MIA’S BOOKS. They each have left me speechless.
Giving your life for someone else is the ultimate show of love and we see Kyland struggle to want to leave and needing and wanting Tenleigh to leave. There is love, faith, triumph and forgiveness too. All of the characteristics of a book you can’t put down.
Kyland – a poor, lonely boy who wants nothing more out of life than to get out of Denville Kentucky. To leave his sad, depressing life behind. He has admired Tenleigh from a far, but becoming her friend will change the course of his life forever.
Mia has once again captured my heart with this book!
