Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski
From the author of the New York Times, USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling novel, THE EDGE OF NEVER, comes a story of passion and survival…
Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.
Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.
While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.
As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.
This is their story…
Abby’s Review 5 stars
J.A. Redmerski does it again! The Edge of Never is easily in my top ten books ever so when this book released, I’m not going to lie, I didn’t even read the synopsis, I just One clicked. Why? Because it’s J.A. Redmerski that is why! Yep she is that type of author. You know before knowing what it is about that you are going to get a well written, original story, and that is what Killing Sarai is.
This is a twisted story! Filled with, Mexican drug lords, sex trafficking, a secret agency called the Order that has murder for hire, violence and in the middle of all that a strange amount of love. These killers/victims have been taught not to love. They have been taught not to feel. In a very unexpected and dangerous paring Sarai and Victor, (if that’s even his name) feel for eachother.
Sarai since she was a young girl has been through more nightmares than one could imagine. (Except for J.A.) She has been exposed to so much violence and pain that she has become numb to it. Over the years she did what she needed to in order to survive. In so many ways one of the biggest themes to this is how the instinct for survival can out way everything else. Sarai is courageous and strong. The way she has been hardened by circumstance only strengthens her character. Although Sarai is hardened, deep down she has a sense of right and wrong. Everything J.A. Redmerski had Sarai go through was necessary and thrilling. She has you on the edge of your set the whole way through.
Victor is also in so many ways just like Sarai. At this point it was harder for me to tell if he is a victim of circumstance or just a trained killer. Besides him being able to easily take a room out, and being such a major bad ass, he has more guards up than all of the U.S. and Mexico. Some how Sarai breaks down some of his guards. You find yourself wanting him for her, even though he is so dangerous.
This book is not a simple love story. There is so much more to it. If you are needing something different, with edge than this is your book. It was easily a 5 star read without any hesitation for me. I loved the depth in this story and I cant wait to dive into the next one.
P.S. There is a sneak peak at the end for The Edge of Always 🙂
