SANDY’S 5 – I AM NOT ALRIGHT AND YOU WON’T BE EITHER – BLUSH REVIEW
Here is part of the blurb:
Thursday’s husband, Seth, has two other wives. She’s never met them, and she doesn’t know anything about them. But one day, she finds something. Something that tells a very different—and horrifying—story about the man she married.
Grabs your attention right away, doesn’t it? So will this book! A piece of paper….a little piece of paper starts this roller coaster of a ride that will have you losing sleep, unable to concentrate, turning page after page until you’re done. Despite all the sister wives programs on tv, I don’t believe most young women would accept this kind of arrangement.
Thursday’s entire life revolves around Seth, his wants, his needs and whatever attention (i.e. love) he gives her. On her designated day, (which is Thursday – get it?) she waits for his arrival like a dutiful Stepford wife, dinner ready along with the perfect bottle of wine. Then he’s gone again.
Thursday is a woman with a very tight hold on her emotions. During the day she is a very competent ER nurse. Going through the motions day after day, waiting until it’s her turn again. Until it’s Thursday, again. Never letting her carefully composed façade crack while on the inside a constant bottle reigns. Curiosity is surely taking hold of her thoughts more and more, feeding her insecurity and jealousy.
One night she finds a piece of paper in her husband’s clothing. A doctor’s bill for a woman named Hannah. Hannah? Is she Monday? The pregnant wife? Now Thursday has a name. Now she has an address. The train has left the station and no way in hell it is coming back. I lost my mind along with Thursday the deeper I got into The Wives.
At one point, I thought I understood where this plot was going. NOPE. Wrong. Back to square one people! Thing is I didn’t care because I was loving every moment. My book nerd heart was thrilled. My reader brain was fully engaged and I had not been this lost within a story in a long while. I was completely obsessed with these characters until the very last word. At which point, I slammed my Kindle on the floor while screaming at the universe Oh MY GOD are you kidding me!? Holy crap that was the end?! I immediately went back to the beginning and re-read it, through different eyes this time and loved it even more.
Well done Tarryn Fisher. Well done.
Louisa’s 5 Blush Up All Night Review
Many years ago, when I wasn’t an avid reader – I would read on vacations only. With 4 small children, I wasn’t able to read as often as I do now. I would devour a James Patterson mystery in a week. But the times have changed and in the past 5-6 years, I have been a romance enthusiast which brought me to the likes of Tarryn Fisher and Colleen Hoover. In the past year, I have mixed in a few psychological thrillers and this genre is becoming an addiction, some of my most favorite reads to be honest.
Reading a book and not knowing exactly where it’s going, unlike the almost always present HEA of a romance novel, is what I think attracts me to this genre lately. Psychological thrillers keep my mind running and thinking long after I put the book down and The Wives surely fell into this category.
Tarryn has been my unicorn author – the author I thought I would never meet, but it’s going to happen and yeah – there will most likely be tears. As an author, Tarryn invokes such emotions with her words and her social media interaction, she’s pure with her words, she says what she means and means what she says. Not everything she says, or writes is what people want to hear and this is exactly why I am so fond of her writing and her in general. This book left me with a mind fuck like no other and I want to crawl into her beautiful mind and find out exactly what really happened then again – do I?
