I love finishing a book and having the above reaction.  Many of those books are some of my all-time favorite books.  Yes, I am mainly a romance reader but a psychological romantic thriller?

Finishing this book is equivalent to when you finish a puzzle and you are missing a few pieces.  You have checked the box, under the table, under the cushions and you just can’t find those pieces but you still have the need to see the final picture of a 1000 piece puzzle that you spent hours to construct but you never will.  Leaving you just short of satisfying your accomplishment. But this is what makes a psychological thriller – well, GREAT!

That’s exactly how I feel after reading Verity.  I was spellbound by the book from the first sentence (literally) to the last word on the last page.

Colleen Hoover started her writing career with a beautiful YA love story in Slammed and has morphed into my favorite author, always keeping her readers growing along with her.  Her “dark” side began to sneak out in her C. Hoover penned Too Late and has come to full bloom in Verity.

I can offer this suggestion – go in blind, give yourself a few hours of uninterrupted time to binge read this book, there may be a time you will need to put the book in the freezer (aka Joey from friends reading Little Wome) but it’s worth every moment you dedicate to it.

Christina’s 5 Blush Review

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book this disturbing. And as sick as it was, I loved every fleeting minute of it. There were several times where I had to put the book down, shiver and get up and get a blanket. I love nothing more than when an expertly crafted psychological thriller makes the tiny hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention like someone is creeping up behind me. I am the type of person who enjoys being thoroughly disgusted with the actions and behaviors of the characters. I get a sick thrill over twisted plots that screw with my mind and make me believe I’m actually crazy. I LOVE it when I can hand a book to someone and say “Hey, this book was totally sick and twisted. You should read it. I loved it.”

THAT’S Verity.

Being a long time fan of Colleen Hoover’s previous work, I didn’t know what to expect with Verity. It’s just so different from her other books. Even though this genre is fairly new to her, Hoover writes with an established brilliance like some of our favorite veteran psycho-thriller writers. She infuses every aspect of what makes a thriller truly thrilling and deranged into Verity and did it fearlessly. I love the push and pull of a twisted female character and a more vulnerable one. I love when the male character is somehow at a disadvantage; whether it be because he is unaware or because he’s blinded by love. And yes, there IS a romance in this book. And I freaking LOVED it. Hoover wasn’t afraid to push the envelope and take chances. Cheers to her. And what I think she does best with Verity is that she’s created a story within a story which keeps you searching for Veritas in everything you’re reading. It’s refreshing and unique. From the first paragraph of the first page to the very last line before The End, Verity will grab a hold of you and keep you guessing. Hang on tight, it’s a wild ride.

Stephanie’s 5 Blush Review

“I think the idea of me is better than the reality of me.”

Once again Colleen Hoover has shown her talent and versatility as a writer! Verity is a standalone romantic thriller. It is full of mystery and suspense. What is truth and what is fiction??? I loved every part of it! It made me gasp, cringe, and jump! The story pours out, flowing from page to page. There is also the “romantic” part….There is no shortage of hotness in this story!

“Most people come to New York to be discovered. The rest of us come here to hide.”

Here is what I think is important: read or don’t read the blurb. Go in “blind.” This allows greater enjoyment of the story. Stay away from reviews, they will only confuse or scare you. And then… jump in! Verity is a great read! Filled with many twists and turns. It will keep you guessing! And then at the end will be the most commonly said statement: “What did I just read???”

“Here, I’m invisible. Unimportant. Manhattan is too crowded to give a sh*t about me, and I love her for it.”

Colleen Hoover has written over 18 novels/novellas. No two are alike! Each time I read one her books I am wow’d! I think – “How did she come up with that?” I sit here amazed and awed. Another great Hoover read!

“The world was her manuscript. No surface was safe.”
