It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Sounds familiar? That’s because it was a headline in a tabloid the second time he got arrested.
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.
Stephanie’s 4.5 Blush Review
“You’re such a bastard, calling you one is an insult to every bastard inhabiting this world. We need to invent a new word for what you are.”
Rocks bad boy is making a comeback. Alex Winslow’s life had spun out of control. After a bad album, an arrest and a stint in rehab he is on a comeback tour. His agent insists on Alex having a sobriety companion to keep him out of trouble and sober. She hires Indigo Bellamy, aka Indie, new girl & Stardust. Indie is unique, naïve, selfless and artistic. Alex and Indie are complete opposites. Initially she is completely unaffected by him. Indie challenges Alex’s crazy, rude, impatient, and obnoxious behavior.
“Alex Winslow was a tornado, impacting everything and everyone on his way to destruction.”
“Alex Winslow was, in fact, a pile of stereotypes sewn together into a persona even he couldn’t distinguish anymore. He ticked every single box: rock star, troubled, drug addict, tattooed.”
What Alex and Indie don’t realize is that they have more in common than they thought. They have both suffered loss and loneliness. But they each choose to deal with it in their own way.
As they begin Alex’s three month tour things shift. Alex needs to write an album while on tour but his head is blank. After his first show he is high off of the adrenaline and feels the need to write. He can’t do that with everyone around. He decides to make Indie his “muse” and they begin a ritual of sitting in the hotel hallways post show so that he can write.
“You chased my muse away.”
“I needed her words and her thoughts and her disposition. I wanted to suck her soul dry and pour it onto the pages, my pages, getting my money’s worth out of my babysitter.”
Alex and Indie make a connection. I loved Indie’s character. She is sweet, caring, loving and creative. She puts everyone ahead of herself. She is optimistic, always looking at the positive.
Alex, oh Alex. You very bad bad boy.
“What’s he like?” Disgusting. Gorgeous. Rude. Sexy. Screwed-up. Witty. Broody. Unbearable. Trouble. Trouble.”
There are a few surprises, some angst and a lot of heart ache. I love how things are not solved instantly. There was work that needed to be done to help heal these flawed characters. The writing was wonderful! LJ Shen knows how to set the scene and imagine the characters. Alex and Indie will steal your heart! As a side note, I loved the play list and the musical references! #Morrissey #Smiths
“He was no knight in shining armor, a far cry from a savior. He was just a broken, sad boy who was given a great gift that put him on display for the world to see and to judge.”
Our Blush Review 3.5 blushes
L.J. Shen is an amazing writer. Often when reading her lyrical verses, it comes off as poetry. That was my favorite thing about Midnight Blue. She has this was about her writing that completely transfixes you. This is what kept me reading.
Alex is the Anti-hero. For me, I didn’t ever fall for him. His change was too late. Still, you may find his bad boy persona sexy. There are a lot of twists that come late in the game on this one.
It must also be said that I really liked Indy. Indigo, named for the color of her eyes, has a backbone and she wasn’t going to be pushed around by Alex’s demons. I enjoyed her.
There was also this steamy scene, that involved writing lyrics on a back and that was sexy as hell!!
Nat’s words came back and haunted me like a bad haircut from the eighties. An irrational need to check the goods took over me. It wasn’t like he minded. According to the rumors, his dick had seen more cameras than Kendall Jenner. Slowly—so painfully slowly—my eyes drifted down his sinewy body. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Whatever I had in mind, though, didn’t come close to the real thing. Thick, long but not atrocious. With thin veins running through its length.
“Nice view?” he groaned, tucking his junk back into his briefs. His profile was glorious. Strong jaw, pouty lips, eyes like sex…
My eyes snapped up when I realized he was talking to me. “I wasn’t…”
“Looking? Yes, you were. Next time take a picture. It lasts longer.” He rolled his zipper upward and flushed the toilet with the toe of his boot. He turned around and squirted soap into his palm, washing his hands almost violently—rubbing between each finger and scratching his knuckles like he wanted to shed his own skin. When he was done, he looked around for a towel.
I cleared my throat, scrambling to regain my wits. “Longer than the glimpse or longer than your performance?”
Casually—so unbearably casually—he wiped his wet hands over my purple dress. I gasped, moving sideways. It looked like he was about to open the door and get out, but before I had the chance to yell at him for using me as a human towel, he slammed me against the wall, bracing both his arms above my head and pinning me to my spot. I let out a shriek of surprise at the sudden proximity.
Alex Winslow is touching me. Willingly, my surprisingly pitiful brain squealed.
Heat rolled off his body, making my back arch and my breath catch in my throat.
“Let’s make one thing clear—I could fuck you to a point of numbness without even breaking a sweat if I wanted to. Now, careful, New Girl. If you don’t keep your distance from me, I think I just might.”
