Blog Tour: UNBEAUTIFULLY by Madeline Sheehan

Rating:

Warning: This is not a story about fate or destiny. This is a story about pain, sorrow, and suffering. This is an impulsive whirlwind romance between two lovers that are not meant to be together. Theirs is not a world with sunshine and roses. Instead, their love blossoms in a secret world full of crime, violence, and death. Their story is about what can be born from nightmares.

Danielle “Danny” West is the daughter of Deuce West, President of the Hell’s Horsemen Motorcycle Club. A sweet and beautiful girl, she loses her way, searching for things that are always out of her reach. Erik “Ripper” Jacobs is the Sergeant of Arms in the Hell’s Horsemen. Once a man who always had a smile on his face, his life takes a turn for the worst when a tragedy befalls him, leaving him scarred and broken. During a midsummer night, Danny and Ripper’s paths cross, forever changing their lives. Hastily, their lust turns to love until another tragedy forces them apart. On a journey that is marred with ugliness and chaos, Danny and Ripper must discover if their unforeseen connection can find the beauty in their world.

This is Danny and Ripper’s story.

EXCERPT:
The first time I fell in love it was with a pair of blue eyes and a wide dimpled grin.
“Your old man loves ya, Danny girl,” He whispered. “You never ever forget that, yeah?”
I never did. And I never thought I could ever love any man as much as I loved my father. But as we grow, we change, we begin to make our own decisions and thus become independent and self sufficient and start turning away from our parents and turning to others. We form friendships, strong bonds and ties and begin experiencing life outside of the bubble we grew up inside of.
And we fall in love…a second time.
The second time I fell in love it was with a badly scarred face, the stuff of nightmares; the sort of disfigurement that mothers steer their children away from. Ugly, jagged slashes marred the skin from the top of his skull, down over his right eye, an eye that had been dug out of his face with a serrated blade. The scars continued across his cheek, over his lips and down his neck, ending at the top of his shoulder. His chest was a hundred times worse; scar tissue as far as the eye could see.
“Baby,” He said gruffly, “Man like me got no business with a girl like you. You’re nothin’ but fuckin’ beauty and I’m a whole lot of fuckin’ ugly who’s already halfway to hell.”
But he was wrong.
Everything has beauty. Even the ugly. Especially the ugly.
Because without ugly there would be no beauty.
Because without beauty we would not survive our pain, our sorrow, and our suffering.
And in the world I lived in, the world he lived in, a secret world within the world, a world of of constant crime and cruel, cold, death, there was almost nothing but suffering.
“You may not be beautiful the way you were before,” I whispered, placing my hand on his hard chest. “But you’re still beautiful. To me.

Review

Whoa Holy Fucking Awesomeness!!!  How does one even write a book comparable to Undeniable?  I don’t have any clue but she so did it!

First I can’t get over how brilliant her writing is!  She switches from first to third person.  It does not even feel like she is switching.  For me sometimes third person, feels like you miss out on feeling connected to the character.  This is not the case, you almost don’t even realize this is happening because she does this so effortlessly.  I think that the way she wrote this took massive talent.  Not only was her style flawless but so are her words.

Ripper and Danny, umm wow.  Ripper is disfigured from that awful Frankie, he is all scarred up.

“You may not be beautiful the way you were before, ” I whispered, cupping his ruined cheek.  “But you’re still beautiful.  To Me.”

Danny looks past Ripper’s disfigurement and she loves him any ways.

There are turns and twist in Danny and Ripper’s story that have you rooting for them.

This is not only Danny and Ripper’s story but it’s still Eva and Deuce’s.  Deuce is so scarred from watching Eva raped in front of him that he has pushed her away.  Your heart breaks a little knowing how much these two have gone through.  You want love to be enough.  But you understand the pain.

And Preacher!  I loved Preacher in this story.  I love the banter between Deuce and Preacher.  He is a pretty bad ass dad that can definitely teach Deuce a thing or two about parenting.

This is one of those stories that leaves you reeling at the scarred but very real love you bare witness to.  Madeline knows how to tell one hell of a dysfunctional love story.

Chatting with Madeline

Madeline has some punk rock love in her life, can you discuss how punk rock influences, Undeniable and Unbeautifully?

HAHA!  I do have a lot of “punk rock” roots I guess. Music definitely influenced me a very young age and subsequently started me on a very “education” and interesting journey through my teenage years.  I should give credit where credit is due and a shout out to some great bands.

(1)   The Ramones

(2)   The Sex Pistols

(3)   The Clash

(4)   Rancid (Tim Armstrong)

(5)   The Suicide Machines

(6)   Crass and even G.G. Allen ß Although I say that with a grimace b/c…well, if you knew GG, you know what I’m talking about.

So, around 15, I began hanging out downtown, going to punk shows, partying it up with Mohawk sporting boys and tattooed, pierced girls.  By sixteen my head was shaved, by eighteen I had a total of ten body piercings and well now, at thirty-one, even though most of my piercings are now just holes with nothing in them, I’m quite tattooed and still listen to my punk rock tunes.

As for inspiring my book?  YES!

A lot of the nicknames given to my MC characters; Tap, Mick, Bucket, were all inspired by people I met along my journey, as are some of the personality traits.  I know a Kami and I’m not ashamed to say there is a little of me in Eva.

As for Deuce.  Once upon a time, yes, I very much loved a man a lot like him.

There is a lot of sex and violence in Undeniable and we are assuming in Unbeautifully, can you talk about why you choose to write about such hard topics?

Honestly?  I just sit down and write, and whatever comes out, comes out. I didn’t set out to write an uncomfortable read, it just sorta happened that way. Some of the topics I can relate to but mostly, this is just my imagination hard at work. J

Can you discuss for you, the journey that writing this series has been for you?

It’s been a rollercoaster of INCREDIBLE! My readers, fellow authors, bloggers, everyone has opened me up to an amazing new world and I’m in love!  Dream come true right here.  Despite some of the struggles Indie authors face, despite the drama, the cattiness, I love it and will be forever grateful.
