BLOG TOUR: The Untouchables by J.J. McAvoy – Review and Giveway
Book 2 in the Ruthless People Trilogy.
“One Secret. Multiple Casualties.”
Everything Melody Callahan has ever been told about her past is a lie. Her father lied. Her husband lied. But like all secrets…they come out. Not only is her mother, Aviela, alive but she won’t stop until she tears down everything Liam and Melody have spent the past year building.
With a new target on their back and the media now focused on their family as the Presidential election approaches, Liam and Melody must fight on two battlefronts. Melody is torn between being in love with Liam and wanting to kill him for lying to her. Being in love and showing love are two different things in her world. Liam wants to do anything to protect his family even if that means hurting the people he loves.
Family is everything… but what happens when they’re out for your blood? Everything they have been through is nothing compared to what is coming…
***Warning: This book contains adult language and subject matter including graphic violence and explict sex that may be disturbing for some readers. This book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.***
So, I am not quite sure where to start with this review because this book is all over the place. It’s a mob story, it’s a love story, it’s dark, it’s violent and even sometimes, laugh out loud funny. Have you ever read a book like that? NOPE! Within the past few years I may have possibly read 200+ books and have NEVER come across a book like this.
J.J. McAvoy is a genius writer. I am so invested in Melody and Liam that I couldn’t put this book down, my kindle smacked me in the head on many many occasions!
The banter back and for between Mel and Liam was just awesome…
Liam “You don’t date. I know, but I date. And since marriage is about compromise, I’m going to ignore you”.
Melody “I’m sorry asshole, but how is this a compromise?”
Melody and Liam were forced into this marriage but have been able to overcome quite a bit to become a team. A team of murdering, foul mouthed, hot sex having team, but a team nonetheless. The sex in book one was hot and sexy and again in this book it is, but I also found the love and intimacy between Liam and Mel was heartwarming. The word heartwarming isn’t always used when reviewing a dark novel like this but again, JJ McAvoy has made a book with all the elements needed to keep you reading.
“…he was in pain, and he was growing on me. I wasn’t sure when we had changed into this lovely couple, but with each passing day he was becoming a bigger part of my soul.” Melody
Melody is one bad ass woman. She is a smart, stong, a ruthless murderer, a loving wife, a bad ass boss with balls and and all around bitch of a women. She may be a bitch but you will respect the hell out of her. She has a softer side which we see during this book , which makes her more lovable. Who would have ever said “I respect and love the hell out of a murderer?”, well I just did. To watch Melody deal with the feelings that involve her mother, Aviella, will make you weep.
Liam..ahhh Liam. He’s sexy, hot, strong, cocky, bossy, a ruthless murderer, a loving husband and doesn’t take NO for an answer…ever! He is the ultimate alpha male but a soft side like you would never expect.
This couple is after world domination and they are well on their way. In this book we get to see many points of view, not just Melody and Liam, but Olivia, the pain in the ass sister in law, Neal – Liam’s older brother, Evelyn & Sedric – Liam’s parents, Fedel -Melody’s trustworthy body guard and Declan- Liam’s faithful cousin. With the numerous point of view, we get such a full picture of what is happening within this family.
I can’t say enough about my feelings for this book because it was just awesome, impressive, magnificent and amazing. Ruthless People was on my top 10 for 2014, and yes it’s only 22 days into the year and I am positive, this book will be on my top 10 for 2015!
Congratulation JJ McAvoy on this masterpiece and I can not wait to read book 3 in just a few months.

J. J. McAvoy first started working on Ruthless People during a Morality and Ethics lecture her freshman year of college. X number of years later, she is an insomniac who has changed her major three times, and is a master in the art of procrastination. If you ask her why she began writing, she will simply tell you “They wanted to get their story out.”
