CONFESS
BY COLLEEN HOOVER
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.
Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…
Louisa’s Review
I will start my review with a confession of my own. I finished this book and called my one of my blog partners and said..WTF? I am not sure how I feel about that. Not sure if I connected with the characters, not sure if I loved it…oh no, no, no, no how can I NOT love a Colleen Hoover book?
I read this book so quickly the first time, well, because it’s Colleen Freaking Hoover people! I put the book down, thought about it for days and with the guidance of some great book friends and fellow bloggers, I read it again, and thank god I did. I went into the book with an open mind, slowed my roll and really, really took my time, savoring the words and the feelings, and I am happy to say, Colleen Hoover has written a book I love. That was scary people; the world would have fallen off its axis if I didn’t love this book. With that being said, I implore you to take your time, relish ever word on the page (or screen). I think I would have done this book and Colleen a disservice if I hadn’t read it again.
You know you are in for a ride with anything Colleen writes, but who would have thought she could rip your heart out and stomp on it in the freaking prologue? Well, she did, not only was I, at 3%, crying, my heart broke along with Auburn that I needed to crawl into the book and hug this poor girl. I also wanted to smack Lydia and Trey already and those feelings only magnified throughout the book.
This book is about a chance meeting of Auburn and Owen but or they just at the right place at the right time. Not just the first night they officially meet when Owen needs help at his art studio, but possibly the moment in their lives that they were needed
Owen receives anonymous confessions and paints his feelings after he reads them. If only he could share his confessions with Auburn, his life could be less complicated. But as the book continues, we find that Auburn has a few confessions of her own. (I have to say that the ARC I received, DID NOT have the pictures in the book, I have, through the grace of all the book gods, have a (signed) paperback copy on it’s way to my house so I can feast on their beauty).
There was a quote in this book that I believe everyone has felt at least once in their lives, me however, I have felt for years now, it’s what helped me connect with Owen just a bit more.
This quote, I feel, was exactly how Auburn has been feeling for years herself also. Their lives paralleled more than they even knew. Their connection was meant to be. But their relationship has so many secrets that we aren’t even sure if it will ever become a reality. The hurdles in both their lives make them being together, almost impossible. My heart stopped beating a few times while reading. I kept thinking to myself, “How is she going to be with him, she can’t be, she just can’t.” But I wanted them together like MY life depended on it.
As I had said, Auburn will capture your heart pretty early on and Owen, but I wasn’t so sure about for a bit but as I continue to read, he snuck in and I won’t ever let him leave.
And once again, Colleen Hoover has written characters that you love, Owen & Auburn. She has written characters you want to strangle, Trey & Lydia. And once again, she has written a secondary character, Emory, Auburn’s roommate who I want to be MY friend! Emory had me laughing out loud more than once in this book. She reminded me so much of the fun of Daniel & Six, Gavin & Eddie, Warren & Bridget. Colleen will now most likely have her fan’s asking for a novella about Emory, at least this fan will be. Can we see a little something between Harrison & Emory?
Colleen Hoover has done it again, she has taken my heart, ripped it open and pieced it back together.
Beautiful book that is a must read for me!
