Abby’s Review 4.5 fabulous stars
“The thing about the Shadows is that they’re not all darkness. You need to have light to have shadows. So just look for it.”
Find you in the Dark was all about Clay and Maggie falling in love and Clay falling into the darkness. Light in the Shadows is about their crawl out of the darkness.
When I finished Find you in the Dark, I was very much like Maggie’s friends and family, I wanted to protect her from Clay. Light in the Shadows, gives you Clay’s perspective as well as Maggie’s. Walter’s use of this for me was perfect because it allowed the reader insights into Clay so that we were more okay with Maggie and Clay’s love.
This book has so much. It has flawless lines, honesty, vulnerability, and a raw sweetness.
“Life with Clayton Reed would never be sunshine and roses. It would be lots of shadows with intermittent light. And I was figuring out ways to appreciate the light when I saw it. Because that darkness was still there.”
Light in the Shadows, is a journey that Clayton and Maggie will face their entire lives. It felt like watching a bit of beauty as we watched them heal together.
I read a ton, so it is always a pleasant surprise to find something as beautiful as healing, that is not really written about, be brought to the spotlight.
“So together we walked into our future. One that we had mapped out. And that future was nothing but light.”
Dawn’s Review 5 Brilliant Stars!
What a beautiful story of healing and love! I truly loved this sequel to Find You in the Dark!! The first book in this series left me broken and hurt. This one provides promise and potential, even amongst the difficulty of Clay and Maggie learning to live with mental illness. Through it all, there is a sense that yes, there are and always will be shadows, but that finding the light amongst them is attainable and so worth the effort.
I loved the use of the dual points of view of both Maggie and Clay. It enriched the story immensely to hear Clay’s side of it. The transitions were smooth and clear and never left me wondering whose head I was in at the time.
I felt like Clay and Maggie’s journey had several parallels particularly at the beginning as we see the growth they have each experienced as well as the pain they both had dealt with. There are bumps and bruises along the way. Difficult decisions to be made. But through it all though their love is one that is strong and deep.
The journey that Clay and Maggie take (along with all of their family and friends) was brilliantly told by A. Meredith! A definite must-read!
