Blog Tour: AnguiSH by Lila Felix
Synopsis
Anguish was the status quo, until she walked in.
Breaker James Collins is confined in a prison of his own making. Scarred doesn’t begin to define his hell since finding out his girlfriend had cheated, stolen, and lied two years ago.
It led to a single event—one that would blacken his days and his nights from then on. Since then, he hasn’t left his house, crippled by fear of people and any social interaction.
Ashland talks too much and has the voice of a meth-laden prairie dog, or so she’s always been told. She’s been called annoying and irritating all of her life and gave up on having friends for a long time. College has given her a new lease on a social life and she’s embraced who she is. But now she’s waiting for the one guy who can take her breath away and put up with her antics.
A simple note pinned to a corkboard will lead Ash right to Breaker’s solitary world and she will learn that just because a guy doesn’t fit her ideal, doesn’t mean she won’t fall head over feet in love.
Excerpt
I feigned distress at the sight of his infamous motorcycle, “Oh, the Harley, should I bow or kneel or do I have to say some secret chant before I get on? I mean, I don’t feel worthy.”
“Oh give me a break, Ash. You know you’ve been waiting for me to cause a rumble between your legs. Here’s your chance.”
I pointed my finger at him, “Hey! Stop with the pervy nuances. If I can’t do it, then you can’t do it.”
He slunk behind me and whispered, “See what you did there? If I were a smart ass pervert, I would say, it’s fine baby, we can do it together. But I’m not, so get your pretty ass on the bike, so I can thoroughly convince you.”
My throat had grown dry, “Convince me of what?”
“Convince you that I’m different.”
Dawn’s Review 3.5 Stars
Lila Felix gives us Breaker James, a ‘broken’ hero and Ashland, the girl who just might be what he needs to unbreak him. I really appreciated how Lila handled Breaker’s issues with care and love. He struggles with panic attacks that have led him to becoming agoraphobic after an extremely ugly situation involving an ex-girlfriend.
I loved the sweet Breaker James. He is unique and profound with different hobbies and interests. But underneath is this sexy man on a motorcycle who cares about taking care of himself. Ashland helps him see that he needs to find that person again without becoming dependent upon her for finding his equilibrium.
Ashland is a funny, hard working young woman who also deals with few friends, and not a very high opinion of herself. She comes across as strong and doesn’t take crap from Breaker, always pushing his boundaries based on caring for him while he also helps her see herself in a different light.
I enjoyed how Lila approached this situation with Breaker and his anguish of not being ‘normal’. She handled it with sensitivity and care and never did I feel sorry for him. I only wanted him to get healthy enough to lead a life outside the prison of his home. I wanted to know more about what led to his panic attacks prior to his ‘big one’. There was a hint at it but it didn’t dive in too deeply. And I would have loved more of their relationship later in the story through texts, but I still loved how everything played out. The end was so wonderfully handled, still fun, sweet, and sexy like the rest of the story.
