Blitz~~The Story of Us by @TaraSivec
THE STORY OF US by Tara Sivec (June 11, 2017; Forever Yours eBook; $3.99)
How much can a man take before he breaks?
1,843 days. That’s how long I survived in that hellhole. They tried to break me, but I resisted. And I owe it all to the memory of warm summer nights, the scent of peaches, and the one woman who loved me more than I ever deserved to be loved. Now, I’ll do anything to get back to her.
Only Shelby Eubanks isn’t the girl I left behind all those years ago. She’s someone else, a stranger. My Shelby-my little green-eyed firecracker-would never give up her dreams, would never disappear into her mother’s ambitions. But I won’t give up on her. On us. I may be broken, and scarred, and not the man I used to be, but I will do whatever it takes to remind her of the story of us.
Louisa’s 4.5 Blush Review
This book absolutely and utterly devastated me at times. I love Tara Sivec’s ROM COM’s, I have read a few of her other books too, but this book may have jumped to my all time favorite Tara book. (And I am a HUGE Rom Com fan – just sayin’)
From the moment I opened the book until the last page this book occupied my mind, my heart and my soul. Even when my pesky family or work got in the way of my reading. Eli and Shelby were the couple that you wanted to survive this nightmare that was their lives and circumstances.
The twists and turns, the array of emotions I felt were endless. My heart was breaking and soaring all at the same time. Tara Sivec’s ability to sneak into my psyche for days after reading is spectacular and this book hangover was EPIC!
The perseverance and unshakeable spirit of this couple was breath taking at times. A must read and one of my top reads of 2017!
Tera’s 3.75 Blush Review
So I am going to fall in the minority here. With that being said, I know most people will love this book and its subject matter. And Tara did write a great and beautiful story… just not for me.
The Story of Us opened up with such a bang! It was raw, gruesome, and so vividly depicted, and I loved it. But then the middle happened. Eli was a great character and Georgia was a great character, although unlikable. And then there was Shelby. And I just didn’t love her. I could feel her pain and her struggle but I never really felt she stood up for herself. She just seemed a little week for a novel dealing with overcoming hardships and PTSD. I did enjoy the twist at the end. It was probably my favorite part aside from the opening. So although this wasn’t my favorite book that deals with PTSD, I definitely think most people will love this book!
