STEPHANIE’S 5 BLUSH REVIEW
I love the Hard to Resist series so I was excited to read about another band member in The Rebellion. It is a stand-alone but the other books in the series share characters and backgrounds. The author does a good job of allowing us peeks to fill in the gaps.
I love the flow of the story. It alternates between Derrick and Jamie a/k/a Jaymes but also tells their past and the present. It was an emotional journey. The pace was steady and then picked up speed at the end. There was a sweet twist as well.
Derrick and Jaymes were friends, then first-loves, and then soulmates. They grew up in an area that left few choices. There was a fine line between life and death…..poverty or gangs. But choices were made. Hard choices. Life altering choices. And soon, they parted ways. Derrick was off to free himself from a life of gangs and pursue his dream of being a rock star.
Life can be pretty damn sweet if I look at the bright side.
The only problem with the bright side these days is that my head is overrun with memories of a girl I left with a broken heart and an out of tune guitar.
Lots of emotion and feels. Derrick is sweet and sensitive as he dreams of a better life with Jaymes but he is also sexy, tough and trying to forget his harsh beginnings. Although he left 5 years ago it is as if time stood still.
Jaymes is amazing. She is strong, resilient, confident and determined. She wants a better life for herself and her family. She always tries to make the best of her situation.
Together both Derrick and Jaymes have secrets and regrets. As I said above, the story flows as we see the past and the present. Second chances from first loves…….
“Lovers. Soulmates. Friends. Those three words come with three others – trust, love and forgiveness. They’re not given. They already exist between us baby.”
