The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand is a must have in your beach bag this summer, right next to the sunblock, Tori Burch flip flops and floppy straw hat. Set against Hilderbrand’s signature Nantucket back drop, The Perfect Couple is a perfectly crafted tale of love, lies, infidelity and murder. The characters are fresh and the setting is vivid. If you’re familiar with Hilderbrand’s novels, you’ll be delighted by the cameos of some of favorite characters and some of our favorite hot spots. Anyone else want to go dancing at the Chicken Box or spend a weekend on Tuckernuck?

We learn about the death of the maid of honor through the eyes of the investigation and the eyes of Nantucket Island. We learn about the bride and groom as the story jumps back in time to showcase how they fell in love. Both the investigative narrative as well as the romantic side of the novel showcase The Perfect Couple in the form of delicious plot twists, juicy secrets, (not so) innocent love and the worst kinds of betrayal. This is what summer beach reads are made of, and there’s a reason why Elin is dubbed Queen of Beach Reads. One scrumptious side note- nobody writes food like Elin Hilderbrand. You may find yourself rooting through your kitchen for a (very) late snack since you won’t be able to put the book down, or trying to emulate one of her delicious yet ridiculously simple and unassuming picnic lunches. You might think Nantucket Island is full of pretentiously overpriced meals, but Elin delivers practical yet savory and mouthwatering depictions of even the simplest of snacks shared between two secret lovers. In vintage Hilderbrand style, The Perfect Couple is my favorite Elin beach read since Silver Girl.
