Delilah Sage was my comfort within all the pain.
Offering open arms when I needed an escape.
The only one trusted to be there for me.
But our dreams were doomed from the start.
And I left her clinging to false hope.
Regret has plagued me for years.
The memories of Delilah refuse to fade.
Each second of every day, I want to claim her as mine.
But I won’t ruin her life.
And she’s better off without me.
When a job lands me in town, I plan to keep my distance.
My scars are mine alone.
Dredging up the past will only cause deeper damage.
But Delilah has always been my weakness.
And resisting her isn’t an option.
After all, there’s far too much for us to miss.
Stephanie’s 4 Blush Review
“What do you want from me?” “Everything.”
Miss is book #2 in the BitterSweetHeat series. Harloe Rae brings us back to Garden Grove as Delilah’s story is told. Each book is a standalone but I prefer to start from the beginning for a fuller picture. The details and descriptions flow throughout the book. A great picture of Garden Grove is formed as well as the many characters.
Circumstances had caused Delilah Sage and Zeke Kruegan to part five years ago. Delilah is heartbroken. Zeke was the boy next door and they were high school sweethearts in love. Zeke finds himself back in Garden Grove and is torn between some of his best memories and his worst.
“You’re all I’ll think about. You know that, right?”
Zeke is caught in a cycle of self-loathing, anger, sadness, and self-doubt. His emotions are very up and down. He often feels worthless, especially when it comes to Delilah. His life has not been easy. Coming back to Garden Grove has awakened so many emotions in him.
Delilah feels abandoned where Zeke is concerned. She is angry that he never came for her as promised. A lot can change in five years. Delilah is no longer the sweet 17 year old Zeke left behind. She is confident and a business owner. Her coffee shop is a small town staple. But things change as she realizes what Zeke has been through. A strong bond is not so easily broken…..
“…you were mine. My everything.”
Miss is a slow burn contemporary romance. The sexy times are H.O.T.! The characters are well written. The pace is steady. The angst is minimal. As you read it, you will feel like you are in Garden Grove. You will love the friendship that is shared between Delilah, Raven and Addison – #girlpower! There is definitely a raw quality to the male characters. They struggle to build friendships but make it happen with the help of their women. Sweet, lost loves and second chances. Fall in love again!
“Why are you being like this?” I ask softly.
His voice is even more flat when he says, “Not sure what you mean. This is me.”
“You’re acting so detached and strange. This isn’t like you.”
“Well, you don’t know me anymore.”
That response brings fury and betrayal roaring to the surface again. “And whose fault is that, Zeke?” I grab a nearby mug with the intention of throwing it at his head. He’s giving me worse mood swings than Aunt Flo.
“We both know the answer. Let’s not play guessing games.”
“You’re ridiculous. I don’t understand you at all,” I say.
“A lot happens in five years. You’re not the only one who’s changed.” He gestures around the store.
“What is that supposed to mean? Are you upset about my career choice?”
“Nah, that isn’t it.”
“What then? Let’s stop dancing around. You came here for a reason,” I point out.
A flush races up his neck, painting the stubbled skin an angry red. “All of this is proof you never needed me. Not like I fucking depend on you.”
